Book Three The Long Way Home begins in 1919 and for Levi a return to his wife Katherina and his ancestral home Kalvarianhof. The Weimar Republic, the German revolution of the 1920’s, and the rise of fascism, challenge the very survival of his family.
Markus returns to his wife Helena at the Conrad Ranch in South West Africa, finding it recently occupied by South African troops. A dreadful event from his time away leads to great pain and upheaval for the entire family.
Despite their harrowing experiences, Markus and Levi and their families reunite in the 1930s -- just in time for the rise of Hitler and his Nazis. Book three ends just before the outbreak of WWII.
Book four encompasses WWII.
